    Nice update! I like that closeup of the aqueduct, very neat to see it that close. And you’re absolutely right, the expanding greenways network makes for a very accessible city to get around, can’t wait to enjoy more of it and the higher quality on street protected infrastructure as well

    I've been fascinated by the aqueduct as well, since I first learned of it's existance a couple years ago. At this specific location however, it appears that it's a rehabilitation of the structure being done in phases, with the water constrained to one half at a time to maintain CEG's water supply (the canal) while allowing construction activities to occur in the dry space. When I look at aerial images side by side from Fall of 2022 vs Summer of 2023 it supports that notion. I'm also informed that CEG does not want a combined trail bridge with it's aqueduct out of security and safety concerns. Nevertheless, DPW Greenways built a trail bridge for Fall Creek Trail about 3000' south of the aqueduct itself, or approximately the 1750-block of Fall Creek (the creek, not the street). The trail bridge connects the extended Fall Creek Trail, which runs along Montcalm Street from Burdsal Pkwy to 18th St., where it zig zags across Fall Creek just south of 18th, then south along the east side of the creek, crossing 16th with a HAWK signal, then continuing south to 10th and Indiana where it meets up with the extended Cultural Trail. It's a beautiful loop that provides valuable added connectivity for neighbors and non-motorized transportation users alike! Incredible drone coverage of construction work, love it!

      @jcwms17 7 месяцев назад

      @@ChannelOfMarvin it’s my understanding it was originally built with the goal of freight transportation as canals typically have been, but somewhere along the line that effort got dismantled. It now is owned by CEG (Citizens Energy Group, I think maybe only industry folks regularly refer to it as CEG…) for water supply for the city, and it passes by the treatment center just south of the aqueduct, for instance. I know that it’s the same pathway as the downtown canal, but the water for the northern portion gets routed underground with pipes. I had assumed that water then daylights and is used in the downtown canal as well, but a colleague informs me that the downtown canal actually recirculates on its own. I haven’t fact checked that though

    Thank you .... lived here all my life and didn't know this was here ... I think they have to repair this structure one side at a time, those are coffer damns, probably not a new bike trail---I could be wrong, but would think they would have to maintain it's current capacity.

    Did you know? The basic mechanism was adapted from "Beach Phonographs" produced in the 1940's ? I found one in the mid 1960s, my mother had one of these in the basement from her youth. She was a Roman Catholic so there is little chance of these being one produced for the J W's. It's fine that he adopted the mechanism but that was not the original iteration of it's production.

I'm happy to let you share it around - I just ask that you give credit to MrMovieMaker.com - there's a page that shows the trail's construction from the beginning. I'm an old guy, a semi-retired Realtor who has done photography all my life. I'm hoping to get some paid work doing photos, videos, and drone shots. Perhaps your office might want to have me make little films of some of your other projects or operations.

      It's very cool for sure, the only problem I see with this setup is on an outbound engine, the lower unit contains an impeller that supplies water up through the housing to keep the engine from overheating. If you could figure a way to keep that part intact you'll be ok, otherwise you'll burn the engine up pretty quickly.
